Conte’s Pasta Co. Inc. of Vineland, NJ, has recalled its Gluten Free Cheese Ravioli due to potential Salmonella contamination. No reports illnesses related to the product have been received to date. The following product is included in this recall: • Conte’s Gluten Free Cheese Ravioli, 12 oz., UPC 73415894009 with a use-by date of 020317 Conte's Gluten Free Cheese RavioliFollowing the recall announcement, Giant Food Stores LLC and Martin’s Food Markets stated that their outlets had removed the product from shelves. Customers who purchased the recalled product should discard any unused portions and bring their receipt to the store where purchased for a full refund. Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. Salmonella infections can be life-threatening, especially to those with weak immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy. The most common manifestations of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within eight to 72 hours. Additional symptoms may be chills, headache, nausea and vomiting that can last up to seven days.
