Schnuck Markets Inc. of St. Louis, MO, is recalling the Chef’s Express California Pasta Salad sold in its Deli/Chef’s Express departments from April 2-14, 2015, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The product was distributed to 99 Schnucks stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Iowa.
The product would have been labeled “Chef’s Express California Pasta Salad” and sold by weight through the company’s Deli/Chef’s Express departments. No illnesses have been reported to date related to the consumption of this product. This recall is a result of the Taylor Farms of Salinas, CA, recall of fresh, flat leaf spinach due to possible contamination with Salmonella. This spinach is an ingredient in Schnucks California Pasta Salad. Schnucks has ceased the sale of its California Pasta Salad at this time. Customers may return any unused portion to their nearest store for a full refund. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting in the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (e.g., infected aneurysms, endocarditis and arthritis).
