On Monday, the University of Guelph’s Department of Food Science launched an online food safety training program for food industry professionals. The university said the program is designed specifically for professionals and staff working in food safety, quality assurance, production and management. The first seven modules of the program will begin in February 2015 and cost $2,000 to participate. The program was originally developed three years ago as the Loblaw Academy, exclusively for food and pharmacy retailer Loblaw Companies Ltd., Canada’s largest retailer. Now, after three years, the program is being opened up to the global food industry community, the university announced. Topics covered by the program include regulatory affairs, risk analysis, allergen management, and Listeria monitoring, among others.
