The latest Canadian recall of cheeses for possibly containing the toxin produced by Staphylococcus bacteria is for Le Verdict d’Alexina, Citadelle, and Grey Owl brands produced by Fromagerie Le Détour Inc. The initial recall list issued on June 26 was updated to include additional products on July 11. All of the Fromagerie Le Détour products recalled include:

Also affected by this alert are the above products, which may have been sold in smaller packages and cut and wrapped by some retailers. Consumers are advised to contact the retailer to determine if they have the affected products. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased. Food contaminated with Staphylococcus toxin may not look or smell spoiled. The toxin produced by Staphylococcus bacteria is not easily destroyed at normal cooking temperatures. Common symptoms of Staphylococcus poisoning are nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping and fever. In severe cases of illness, headache, muscle cramping and changes in blood pressure and pulse rate may occur. This recall was triggered by Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) test results. CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.
