Josh Outman, 28-year-old relief pitcher for the Colorado Rockies, is reported by the club to be suffering from food poisoning.
Rockies Manager Jim Tracy did not specify what type of food poisoning is involved, but said if the left-handed pitcher is still not well enough on opening day Friday in Houston, another relief pitcher will be called up.
Outman came to the Rockies from Oakland earlier this year in a trade for outfielder Seth Smith. The left hander from Central Missouri State started out with Philadelphia.
Outman has pitched 52 innings during his brief major league career. He has 3 wins and 2 losses.
The Rockies break camp after Wednesday’s final spring training game against the Seattle Mariners at Arizona’s Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. If Outman recovers, he will be in the bullpen in Houston when the Rockies open the regular season against the Astros.
