Sprout Recall Expanded

Specialty Farms, LLC, expanded its recall of alfalfa sprout products late last week to include alfalfa sprout products with a best if sold by date of “8/3/2010” and “8/1/2010”.  The sprouts were recalled for potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Products included in the recall are:

Specialty Farms brand Organic Alfalfa Sprouts Blend and Organic Sprout Salad, sold in 4 ounces plastic containers with a best if sold by date of 8/3/2010 and UPC codes
509800108 and 8192400024.

Stop & Shop brand Natures Promise Organic Alfalfa Sprouts sold in 4 ounce containers with UPC code 8826704741, 8 ounce bags with UPC code 8826704102, and Natures Promise Organic Zesty Sprouts 4 ounce containers with UPC code 8826703903.  The best if sold by dates for these products is 8/1/2010.

According to a company press release, the alfalfa sprout products were distributed thru distributors and to retail stores in CT, NH, MA, ME, NJ, NY, PA, RI, VT.

Laboratory analysis found positive results for Listeria from retail samples of the sprouts.  No illnesses have been reported.

Consumers who have purchased this product are urged to return them to the point of purchase for refund and may contact Specialty Farms, LLC with questions at (203) 366-6919 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. EST.
