Taylor Farms recalls 20 products containing jalapeños linked to outbreak

Taylor Farms division Taylor Fresh Foods is recalling 20 products containing jalapeños because of a Salmonella outbreak, including products sold under the Kroger, Target and Trader Joe’s brands.

Taylor Fresh Foods received jalapeños from Coast Citrus Distributors that have been recalled because of a link to a Salmonella outbreak that has sickened 345 people across 27 states.

The illnesses have been traced to jalapeño peppers from a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, who supplied the peppers to Coast Citrus Distributors, according to the recall notice posted by the Food and Drug Administration.

In addition, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a public alert about products containing the jalapeños along with meat and poultry products.

Taylor Fresh Foods is no longer sourcing products from this farmer and will be filling orders from alternative suppliers. The list of recalled products are distributed by Taylor Farms including the branded and unbranded products and corresponding images are provided below.

The recalled products were distributed to retail distribution centers in the following states: AL, AR, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NE, NH, NY, OH, OK, SC, TN, TX, VT, WI, WV with a “Best If Used By” date up to and including August 16, 2026.

Consumers who have any recalled product should discard it immediately and not consume it.

About Salmonella infections
Food contaminated with Salmonella bacteria does not usually look, smell, or taste spoiled. Anyone can become sick with a Salmonella infection. Infants, children, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of serious illness because their immune systems are fragile.

Anyone who has eaten any recalled products and developed symptoms of Salmonella infection should seek medical attention. Sick people should tell their doctors about the possible exposure to Salmonella bacteria because special tests are necessary to diagnose salmonellosis. Salmonella infection symptoms can mimic other illnesses, frequently leading to misdiagnosis.

Symptoms of Salmonella infection can include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food. Otherwise, healthy adults are usually sick for four to seven days. In some cases, however, diarrhea may be so severe that patients require hospitalization.

Older adults, children, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems, such as cancer patients, are more likely to develop a severe illness and serious, sometimes life-threatening conditions.

Some people get infected without getting sick or showing any symptoms. However, they may still spread the infections to others.
