Smoked Fish Recalled in Canada for Potential Botulism

Orr’s Fine Meats and Deli of Parry Sound, Ontario, is recalling two smoked fish products because they may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, the bacteria that causes botulism.  The following products have been recalled: Smoked White Fish (filet) and Smoked Lake Trout (filet).  Both products were sold as filets with no brand name or UPC code.  Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.  Food contaminated with Clostridium botulinum toxin may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, blurred or double vision, dry mouth, respiratory failure and paralysis. In severe cases of illness, people may die.  This recall was triggered by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) inspection activities. CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. If other high-risk products are recalled, CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings.
