Smoked Salmon and Cod Recalled for Botulism Risk

Big Blue Fisheries, LLC, of Sitka, AK, is recalling all of its vacuum-packaged smoked salmon and cod products because they were not properly cooked and may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, the bacteria that cause botulism.  The company is encouraging customers to discard the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled.  The following products bear the label code AK#604 and are subject to recall:

The recall was initiated after a routine inspection by the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation led to the discovery that some products may not have been properly cooked.  Despite the recall dating back to products made in September 2011, there have been no reported illnesses or consumer complaints linked to the product to date.  Symptoms of botulism include general weakness, dizziness, double vision and trouble speaking or swallowing. Anyone experiencing such symptoms should seek immediate medical attention.  Photo of the product label:
