Canadian Beef Burgers Recalled for E. Coli Risk

Published:

Toronto-based Belmont Meats is voluntarily recalling certain beef burger patties because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.  The recalled products are Compliments brand Super 8 Beef Burgers, sold frozen in packages of six with the UPC code of 0 55742 37055 3.  They have been distributed in Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador in Sobeys banner stores, which might include Sobeys, Foodland, FreshCo and Price Chopper.  The recall is part of an ongoing investigation into a recent outbreak. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency states that there have been reported illnesses associated with the consumption of the burgers.  There may be recalls of additional products or best before dates as the food-safety investigation continues.  Symptoms of E. coli infection include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea and vomiting. Anyone experiencing these symptoms is encouraged to visit their doctor.
