Marinated salmon sold only in Quebec was first recalled in January for packages with “Best Before” dates up to and including Feb. 14. A second “notice not to consume” for the product has now extended that date to all “Best Before” dates up to and including April 20, 2016.
Potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes is the reason for both public heath warnings issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The product is marinated salmon packaged as Fjord Lakes brand Gravlax by A&E Distribution Inc. The “Fjord Laks Gravlax- Marinated Salmon (Dill sauce included) comes in a 165 gram package with various Universal Product Code (UPC) numbers. CFIA says consumers should check for the product in their homes and if it is found, it should not be consumed. Food contaminated with Listeria may not look or smell spoiled, but it can still make a person sick. Symptoms include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headaches and neck stiffness are all signs of the illness. The warning was issued on the basis of CFIA test results.
