23 Sick in MN After Dining at Old Country Buffet

Published:

Minnesota health officials are investigating an outbreak of Salmonella in connection with the Old Country Buffet in Maple Grove.  Twenty-three people were sickened with abdominal pain, fever and diarrhea after eating at the restaurant in late January.  Minnesota Health Department spokesperson Doug Schultz told reporters that 11 of the cases have tested positive for Salmonella Enteritidis and that one person was hospitalized.  The source of the outbreak has not yet been identified, but Schultz said there is no ongoing transmission and that the outbreak appears to be over.  Hennepin County Environmental Health officials inspected the restaurant after the cases were reported and cleared it to stay open.
