The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert for frozen, not ready-to-eat (NRTE), meat and poultry products because of misbranding and undeclared allergens.

The products are packaged under the Betterballen brand and contain sesame, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product labels. In addition, the beef product contains Worcestershire sauce that contains anchovy (fish), a known allergen, which is not declared on the product labels.

A recall was not requested because the products are no longer available for purchase.

The frozen NRTE meat and poultry products were produced on Oct. 15, Oct. 16, and Oct. 27. The following products are subject to the public health alert:

The products have establishment number “EST. M3177” or “EST. P3177” printed inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were sold by Lowlands House for internet sales nationwide. These items may have also been sold at a festival and farmers market in Greer, SC.

The problem was discovered during a routine FSIS label review.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a health care provider.

FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
