New Jersey company recalls lamb because it was not inspected

Ghanaianway Restaurant and Grocery LLC in Newark, NJ, is recalling 5,970 pounds of fresh salted lamb products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumer and restaurant refrigerators or freezers because of their long shelf life. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them.

The fresh, raw, salted lamb items were produced from March 11, 2025, to Dec. 3, 2025. The following product are subject to recall:

The products subject to recall do not bear a USDA mark of inspection nor do they declare a best by or production date. Some packages do not bear a label at all. The affected products have a 1-year shelf life and were shipped to restaurant and retail locations in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.

The problem was discovered during routine FSIS retail surveillance activities. There have been no confirmed reports of illness due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
