Allergen Alert: Milk, Soy, Wheat in Snacks

Velvet Creme Popcorn of Westwood, KS, is recalling some snack products because the labels do not list milk soy and wheat as ingredients.

No adverse reactions have been reported, and the recalled products are safe for anyone without allergies to consume. However, people with allergies to milk, soy and wheat run a risk of serious or potential life threatening allergic reaction if they eat those foods, which is the reason allergens are required to be disclosed.

The company says the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in its production and packaging process, which has now been corrected.

The recall is for:

– Velvet Crème Peanut Brittle,  4 oz. cellophane bags (contains milk)

– Velvet Crème Tail Gate Crunch,  1 lb. and 8 oz. cellophane bags (contains soy and wheat)

– Velvet Crème Sweet Cajun Heat, 1 lb. and 8 oz. cellophane bags (contains soy and wheat)

These products, which do not have any lot codes, would have been purchased before Dec. 13, 2011, in Velvet Creme Popcorn’s retail store in Westwood, Kansas.

Consumers who would like to return the products can do so at the Westwood retail store Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information contact the company at 1-888-553-6708 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
