Allergen Alert: British-style Sausages

Silva Sausage Co. of Gilroy, CA is recalling approximately 1,010 pounds of British-style “banger” sausages because of misbranding and an undeclared allergen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Monday.

The pork sausages contain wheat, a known allergen, which is not noted on the label.

FSIS discovered the problem during a label review, and it is believed that wheat was left off the label when the company changed its in-house label printing program.

There have been no reports of adverse reactions.

The recall involves 10-lb. cases of Silva Sausage English Brand Bangers with the establishment number EST. 6086 inside the USDA mark of inspection. The cases can further be identified by the item number 10326 and lot codes 112271, 112911 or 112980.

The sausages were distributed for institutional use in Livermore and Sacramento, CA.

For more information contact the company’s vice president, Rick Martins, at 408-293-5437.
