String Cheese Recalled in California

A Los Angeles company recalled its string cheese Monday because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus.

Surtex Foods Co. says it has ceased production and distribution of its “La Original” brand Oaxaca string cheese, which is sold in a 17.63-ounce clear package.

The product was distributed only in California.  No illnesses have been reported.

The recall was the result of a routine sampling program by the Food and Drug Administration.
