Salinas Grower Recalls Romaine Lettuce

River Ranch of Salinas, CA has recalled whole head romaine lettuce because of potential Salmonella contamination.

The bulk-packed lettuce , with no individual labeling, had the lot code 13816 291.  It was distributed from Oct. 23 -26  to multiple states.

Wholesaler Keany Produce Co. of Landover, MD River Ranch sent a letter to its customers saying the voluntary recall was a precautionary measure due to an isolated instance, during a routine U.S. Department of Agriculture test of one sample, conducted by the New York State Health Department.

The California Department of Public Health has released an information notice with a link to an in-state distribution list.

To date here have been no reported illnesses associated with the lettuce.
