This week’s enforcement report from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) can be summed up in two words: peanuts & pistachios. FDA continues to process the recalls of products made with ingredients from both the Peanut Corporation of America and Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella.
All of the recalls are due to the Salmonella contamination experienced by PCA and Setton. Some 4,000 products are involved in the recalls, and millions upon millions of units are involved.
The Salmonella outbreak involving PCA took nine lives and sickened 700 across the United States. Salmonella contamination at its Terra Bella, CA plant was discovered before the Setton Pistachios made anyone sick.
