Howard Mora and Alan Buxbaum got caught selling choice beef as prime from their Brooklyn, NY, Stein Meat Products facility, which could have cost each of them 20 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.  

But after they each pleaded guilty to felony charges, U.S. District Judge Kiyo Matsumoto opted to hit them harder in the purse with fines and restitution with 5 years of supervised probation instead of prison time for their sentences.

Howard Mora and Alan Buxbaum, co-owners of Stein Meat Products Inc. in Brooklyn, NY, are scheduled to be sentenced next year after recently entering  guilty pleas for a scheme to turn “Choice” beef into “Prime.”

Mora, 68, and Buxbaum, 66, must appear for sentencing at 11 a.m., Jan. 7, 2021, in federal court in Brooklyn before Judge Kiyo A. Matsumoto. The judge earlier this week accepted their guilty pleas.

Howard Mora, 67, of Westbury, NY, and Alan Buxbaum, 65, of Monroe, NJ, were arrested and arraigned Tuesday on federal felony charges stemming from a 3-year scheme to sell beef misbranded as “Prime.” At the time, they were being featured on reality TV.

For fans of such reality shows, Mora and Buxbaum might be familiar names. Their Brooklyn beef business was the topic of season two, episode two of CNBC’s “The Profit,” hosted by Marcus Lemonis.
