17.7 tons of beef, mostly Kroger brand, recalled for plastic bits

JBS USA Inc. Wednesday recalled approximately almost 35,500 pounds of raw ground beef products from its Lenoir, NC, after a report of extraneous materials, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

A consumer found blue, hard plastic pieces in the product JBS made for Kroger and complained about, leading to the recall.

The raw ground beef items were produced on March 22, 2018. The recalled products include:

The recalled products bear the establishment number “EST. 34176” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to distribution centers in Virginia and Indiana for further distribution to retail locations.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS is concerned that some product may be frozen and in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.
