How Sweet It Is Fudge and Candy Company is recalling and correcting the labels of its 32-count packages of Peanut Butter Buckeye and Peanut Butter Smoothie candy because they contain milk, an allergen not listed as an ingredient.

The recall was initiated on Jan. 25 after a consumer with a milk allergy ate a Peanut Butter Buckeye and complained to the company.

The candy company says it has since corrected the label, but is also advising consumers who purchased the Peanut Butter Buckeye and the Peanut Butter Smoothie earlier that the product does contain a milk ingredient.

The 32 cellophane-wrapped pieces of candy are packaged in a 7″ x 7″ x 2″ red, white and blue box with UPC Code 69087100460 and lot numbers 3312011 through 0232012.  The recalled boxes were distributed from Dec. 1, 2011 to Jan. 23, 2012 to wholesale distributors, service stations and convenience stores in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Tennessee, Indiana, Virginia and New York.

The product can be returned to the place of purchase for a refund. For more information contact How Sweet It Is Fudge and Candy Company Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  EST at 517-336-6070.
