Allergen Alert: Barbecue Sauce with Anchovies

Herbadashery of Casper, WY is recalling certain bottles of barbecue dipping sauce because the labels do not specify that the sauce contains anchovies, an allergen.

The recall was initiated after an onsite U.S. Food and Drug Administration inspection on Nov. 23, 2011 found that one ingredient, Worcestershire sauce, included anchovies, which can cause serious problems for people with allergies to anchovies.

No adverse reactions have been reported.

The recall is for Pine Ridge BBQ and Dipping Sauce and Pine Ridge Jalapeño BBQ and Dipping Sauce manufactured after Jan. 1, 2011 and distributed through Internet sales and in retail stores from Jan. 1 to Sept. 1, 2011. The sauces come in 18 oz. or 34 oz. glass bottles and plastic gallon bottles with lot numbers 10111 through 90111 on the bottom. The sauces are not identified with UPC codes. The recalled bottles do not have a “contains anchovies” sticker.

The recalled bottles of sauce may be returned to the place of purchase. For more information contact Herbadashery at 1-307-265-0036 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. MST.
