Canned Pickled Sliced Beets Recalled

Lakeside Foods Inc. of Manitowoc, Wis. has recalled 3,000 cases of canned pickled sliced beets because some cans may have been under-processed and thus have the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum.

There have been no reports of illness linked to the product.

The 105-ounce canned pickled sliced beets were sold to food service distributors in Alabama,  Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Wisconsin from December 2009 to January 2011.

Botulism is a potentially fatal form of food poisoning that could cause general weakness, dizziness, double vision, difficulty breathing, constipation and trouble with speaking or swallowing.
