Canned Meatball Products Recalled

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that Ugo. DiLullo & Sons., an establishment in Westville, N.J., recalled approximately 147,667 pounds of canned meatball products as they contain egg, which is not declared on the label.

The recalled product, U. Dilullo’s Deluxe Meatballs in Sauce in 6lb. and 10 oz. cans has the establishment number, “Est. 1153” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The canned meatball products were produced between May 1, 2009 and August 2, 2010.  They were distributed to various institutions, including food banks, in Maryland, New Jersey, and New York.

The issue was discovered during a routine inspection by FSIS.  No adverse reaction reports have been received by either the company or FSIS.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to make sure that recalling firms are able to notify their customers of the recall as well as to verify that all steps are taken to make sure that the product is no longer available to consumers.
