Health officials in Dalhart, TX, are trying to figure out what’s causing a surge in Salmonella infections, which, as of Thursday, reportedly totaled a dozen cases. Officials at Coon Memorial Hospital said the first case appeared several weeks ago and they have increased steadily since then, with some of those sickened being hospitalized. “Dehydration is the biggest risk, so some people have to be hospitalized to get intravenous fluids,” said Janet Wilson, the hospital’s director of infectious diseases.
