Europe posts fall in cross-border food problems

Suspected cases of fraud shared between European countries declined in August compared to the month before but were similar to levels in the same period in 2025.

There were 165 reports in August, 207 in July, 215 in June, 150 in May, 188 in April, 204 in March, 159 in February, and 189 in January 2026. Earlier data for 2025 shows 196 in December, 194 in November, 223 in October, 164 in September, 166 in August, 136 in July, 164 in June and 129 in May.

Eleven alerts mentioned the United States in August. The majority were related to supplements but one was for the approval number not matching on the label and health certificate. The consignment of squid was detained at the border and re-dispatched.
