Korean agency notes spike in illness cases

The Korean health agency has warned people about a rise in gastrointestinal illnesses with Campylobacter cases doubling in the space of a week.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) urged caution in food preparation and consumption as temperatures and humidity rise in summer, leading to an increase in bacterial infections.

According to the agency's surveillance of 210 medical institutions nationwide with 200 or more beds, infection reports in the fourth week of July increased by 23.5 percent to 6,820 from 5,523 in the same period last year.
