An analysis of outbreaks over a decade in Hong Kong has revealed the growing prevalence of norovirus-related raw oyster outbreaks.
From 2016 to 2025, Hong Kong recorded 1,964 outbreaks affecting 7,758 people. Most of them were small in scale, with 88 percent involving five or fewer cases. Food poisoning outbreaks peaked in May and June because of warmer conditions favoring bacterial growth, while norovirus outbreaks were more common in winter.
