The Netherlands has released figures on the number of people sickened by various pathogens and in outbreaks in 2025.
There were 4,279 people sick in 1,142 outbreaks and 12 large epidemics involved at least 25 people. A pathogen was identified in 31 incidents. Ten were caused by Salmonella, seven by norovirus, and four by Campylobacter, according to the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).
It is estimated that almost 2 million people in the Netherlands were infected by food-related pathogens in 2025.
