Belgian 2025 review includes deadly E. coli outbreak

The Belgian food agency’s annual report was released recently and highlighted a fatal E. coli outbreak and revealed food fraud cases.

The Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC) marked its 25th anniversary in 2025.

In total, 773 foodborne outbreaks were reported with 3,375 people affected and 71 hospitalizations. There were 12 deaths. In 2024, there were 777 outbreaks with 4,248 people sick and 205 hospitalized. Six people died.
