An Australian survey has found many people think it was the last thing they ate that made them sick and consumers are still washing raw poultry at home, which is a dangerous practice.
Results were released by the Food Safety Information Council to mark World Food Safety Day on June 7.
The survey showed 66 percent of Australians recall experiencing some form of food poisoning or gastroenteritis and 51 percent of those blame the last thing they ate. In reality, illness can be caused by items consumed days or weeks before symptom onset.
