Lunds & Byerlys is recalling approximately 500 containers of L&B Lone Star Dip because of potential mold growth contamination.
This product concern was first noticed by store employees, and they notified the company’s Quality Assurance team.
The recalled product was sold at Lunds & Byerlys stores throughout Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota and the surrounding area.
About mold in food
According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), mold in food can pose serious health risks. Some molds cause allergic reactions and respiratory problems, while others, under certain conditions, produce mycotoxins—poisonous substances that can lead to illness. Mold’s root threads can penetrate deeply into foods, especially those with high moisture content, making it unsafe to simply cut off the moldy part. The USDA recommends discarding moldy foods, particularly soft fruits, vegetables, and meats, to avoid potential health hazards. Proper food storage and regular inspection are crucial in preventing mold growth and ensuring food safety.

As of the posting of this recall, no illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall.
If a customer recently purchased the impacted product, they are encouraged to return it to any Lunds & Byerlys for a full refund (no receipt required) or destroy the product immediately.
