Fiji water recalled after testing finds manganese and bacteria

Natural Waters of Viti Limited is recalling Fiji Natural Artesian Water 500 mL (24 pack) Case because the firm testing revealed manganese in addition to three bacterial genera.

According to details published online by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall was initiated on March 4, 2024 and is ongoing.

The recalled products were distributed directly to consumers in the U.S. in Washington and nationwide online.

Recalled products:

Consumers should not use this product. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to their place of purchase.

The FDA has determined that the manganese concentration in bottled drinking water should not exceed 0.05 mg/L.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the most common health problems in people exposed to high levels of manganese involve the nervous system. These health effects include behavioral changes and other nervous system effects, which include movements that may become slow and clumsy. This combination of symptoms when sufficiently severe is referred to as “manganism”.
