Two more top-shelf frozen treat brands produced at the Dr. Bob’s ice cream production plant are under recall because federal officials found Listeria monocytogenes at the plant and in an unnamed brand of ice cream.
Los Angeles-based ISB Food Group LLC recalled two flavors each of L.A. Creamery brand ice cream and Nancy’s Fancy brand gelato Wednesday according to recall notices posted on the Food and Drug Administration’s website.
The ISB recalls for the L.A. Creamery and Nancy’s Fancy products include almost identical language identifying Dr. Bob’s of Upland LLC as did two other ice cream recalls in the past week. Those recalls were for McConnell’s brand out of Santa Barbara, CA, and AC Creamery Inc. of Anaheim, CA.
“The recall is the result of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration finding samples positive for Listeria monocytogenes in the facility of the contract manufacturer, Dr. Bob’s of Upland LLC, and in finished product of an unrelated company’s brand that was manufactured at the Dr. Bob’s facility, leading the contract manufacturer to recall all ice cream products produced this year at its facility,” all four recall notices state.
In Wednesday’s recalls, ISB Food Group provided additional information. The ISB recalls report the company only used Dr. Bob’s for the L.A. Creamery and Nancy’s Fancy products once this year, in March, “and will not produce in the Dr. Bob’s facility going forward.”
Dr. Bob’s officials have not responded to email requests for comment. The published phone numbers for the business have been disconnected.
FDA officials cited “confidential corporate information” restrictions and referred Food Safety News to Dr. Bob’s for questions about the contract manufacturer’s recall of all ice cream products produced at its facility, as described in the other company’s recall notices.
The specific products recalled by ISB Food Group on Wednesday are:

The Nancy’s Fancy Butterscotch Budino Gelato and Nancy’s Fancy Peanut Butter with Crunchy Peanuts Gelato were distributed from March to October in California, Oregon and Texas.
As of Wednesday, no illnesses had been reported in connection to any of the recalled L.A. Creamery brand or Nancy’s Fancy brand products.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled Nancy’s Fancy or L.A. Creamery brand products are urged to contact ISB Food Group for a full refund or any questions at 818-405-0022, Ext. 103.
Anyone who has eaten any of the recalled ice cream products and developed symptoms of Listeria infection should seek medical attention and tell their doctor of the possible exposure to the pathogen. It can take up to 70 days for Listeria infection symptoms to develop.
The pathogen can cause serious and sometimes fatal illnesses in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
