Allergy Alert: Sulfites in Chinese Wolfberry

Strong America Ltd, NY is recalling its 5.28 ounce packages of Huipu Chinese Wolfberry (goji berry) because they contain undeclared sulfites.

The recall was initiated after routine sampling and analysis by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors revealed the presence of sulfites, which were not declared on the label. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites.

No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported.

The recalled Huipu Chinese Wolfberry was distributed in Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Albany. The product comes in a 5.28 oz (150g) clear plastic package.
