Parkers Farm Expands Recall

Over the weekend, the recall of products from Minnesota’s Parkers Farms Inc. for possible Listeria contamination greatly expanded.

The Coon Rapids company announced Friday it was now including all date codes for its recalled products.  Wisconsin and Minnesota both discovered the bacteria in samples of Parkers Farm products.

While no illnesses have been associated with the recall, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Minnesota are investigating with cooperation from Parkers Farm.

The recall was originally announced on Jan. 8th with a list of products with sell by dates within specific ranges.  The expanded recall now includes all Parkers Farms products for all sell by dates.

Parkers Farm products are distributed nationwide in the following retail stores: Hy-Vee, Cub, Rainbow, Byerlys, Lunds, Target, Whole Foods, Jewel, Dominicks, Marsh, Price Chopper, Shop Rite, Nash Finch, Sams Club, Costco, Safeway, Kroger, Wal-Mart, Aldi.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at (800) 869-6685.

Parkers Farm, Inc. said it decided to include all of its products, regardless of date codes in this recall “for the ultimate safety of our customers and in order to create less confusion for them.”

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.  Listeria infection can caus
