A specialized Italian unit has revealed highlights from food controls this past year including meat and olive oil fraud as well as the illegal slaughter of horses for meat.

Information comes from a report on Carabinieri NAS activities in 2025. The Carabinieri NAS is focused on public health protection. It has 38 territorial inspection units responsible for investigations and controls on the agri-food chain, including food adulteration, frauds and illicit trafficking of medicines.
