Major foodborne diseases rise in Europe

Campylobacter, Salmonella, E. coli, and Listeria infections in Europe all increased in 2024 compared to the year before.

Figures come from a report published by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

Every year, thousands of people across Europe fall ill after eating contaminated food. The first and second most reported illnesses were campylobacteriosis and salmonellosis, followed by Shiga toxin- producing E. coli (STEC) and Yersinia infections.
