The Raw Macadamia Nuts were distributed nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem. Random third-party testing found presence of *Salmonella* in the one-pound package of Jansal Valley Raw Macadamia Nuts. Consumers who have purchased one-pound or eight-ounce packages of Jansal Valley Raw Macadamia Nuts are urged to return them to the place of purchase. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-423-8333, ext. 168 or 119, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. EDT. *Salmonella* bacteria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with *Salmonella* often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with *Salmonella* can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (e.g., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
