# Exotic Kosher Cuisine Event in New York City Results in Illness Outbreak

Approximately 20 people have reported symptoms of foodborne illness after attending an event at a Manhattan synagogue dedicated to exotic kosher cuisine, according to [the Jewish Telegraphic Agency](http://www.jta.org/2015/05/21/news-opinion/united-states/nyc-investigating-reports-of-food-poisoning-at-synagogue-dinner?ref=foodsafetynews.com). The incident, which occurred on May 5, is under investigation by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The event showcased rarely consumed foods that qualify as kosher such as oxtail, locusts and quail eggs. One attendee is said to have tested positive for *Campylobacter*. Approximately 300 people reportedly attended the event. Health officials are still looking into the connection between the illnesses and the event.
