# Hepatitis A Warning at North Carolina Nursing Home

Health officials in North Carolina are warning visitors of the Golden Living Center in the town of Mount Airy that they may have been exposed to hepatitis A virus, according to local news station [Fox 8](http://myfox8.com/2014/11/05/mount-airy-nursing-home-resident-possibly-exposed-to-hepatitis-a/?ref=foodsafetynews.com). An employee at the nursing home was recently diagnosed with hepatitis A and might have prepared food while contagious on Oct. 22\. Anyone who visited and ate at the nursing home might have been exposed to the virus. Symptoms of infection include fatigue, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, and jaundice, or yellowing of the skin. Health officials are advising anyone who visited Golden Living Center and believes they’re experiencing these symptoms to consult with a healthcare provider. Anyone infected would be likely to start experiencing symptoms sometime between Nov. 6 and Dec. 11\. The county health agency is currently working to notify anyone who might have been exposed. Individuals who have received a hepatitis A vaccine or have been infected with the virus in the past are not at risk for contracting the illness. Those who get vaccinated within two weeks of exposure significantly reduce their risk of experiencing symptoms. For those who do fall ill, most recover on their own after several weeks of illness.
