If you were sickened by Salmonella in eggs from Wright County Egg in 2010, the U.S. Attorney’s Office may be looking to speak with you. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa is seeking information from people sickened between the beginning of 2010 and August 2010 by eggs from Wright County Egg, also known as Quality Egg LLC. Last month, the company’s two owners, Jack DeCoster and his son, Peter DeCoster, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of introducing adulterated eggs into interstate commerce. They face up to a year in prison but have yet to be sentenced. In accordance with a plea deal struck in April, Quality Egg will pay $6.8 million in fines, which will, in turn, reduce their exposure to jail time. Prosecutors ask anyone who was sickened during the time of the outbreak to visit the Northern District of Iowa U.S. Attorney’s Office website, or to contact Shari Konarske, Victim-Witness Coordinator, at (319) 363-6333 or at shari.konarske@usdoj.gov. An estimated 62,000 people were sickened in the Quality Egg-related outbreak, which resulted in the recall of 550 million raw shell eggs four years ago.
