# Possible Foodborne Illness Being Investigated Following Rural Minnesota Club Meeting

After several people who had attended a recent Lion’s Club meeting in Nisswa, MN, reported symptoms of a potential foodborne illness, the Minnesota Department of Health is investigating. According to a March 31 [story](http://brainerddispatch.com/news/2014-03-31/department-health-investigating-possible-foodborne-illness-nisswa?ref=foodsafetynews.com) in the *Brainerd Dispatch*, those sickened had attended the March 24 meeting at the Nisswa Community Center, where a local caterer served a buffet-style meal. Nisswa is a small town about 15 miles north of Brainerd. The health department later received complaints that some people who ate at the club meeting had experienced symptoms of a possible foodborne illness, said Doug Schultz of the MDH communications department. “We don’t have much yet,” he noted, adding, “We don’t know what the cause of these reported illnesses might be, but ill attendees have reported vomiting and/or diarrhea.” Schultz said he didn’t know how many people had reported feeling ill, although 35 people had eaten at the meeting. A complete list of food items served was being compiled.
