The Rio Grande County Public Health Department in southwestern Colorado is investigating an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness. The illness [reportedly](http://www.9news.com/story/news/health/healthfair/2014/04/11/health-dept-investigating-food-poisoning-cases/7591527/?ref=foodsafetynews.com) started with food served at the 9Health Fair in Monte Vista, CO, on Saturday, April 5\. Fair officials said the food at the fair was supplied by the Kiwanis Club. Rio Grande County Public Health Department Director Emily Brown said samples were sent to the state lab and that results were expected by the beginning of next week. If the state lab tests come back positive, Brown said the health department will inform 9Health Fair of the results, and they will provide information to the fair and food servers about better food-serving practices. Brown estimated about 30 cases were reported by volunteers and participants and that it doesn’t appear the illness is spreading.
