# Suraj Brand Garlic Powder Recalled from Canadian Stores for Salmonella Contamination

Loblaw Companies Limited is recalling Suraj brand Garlic Powder from Canadian stores nationwide due to possible Salmonella contamination. The [recalled product](http://www.inspection.gc.ca/about-the-cfia/newsroom/food-recall-warnings/complete-listing/2013-11-19/eng/1384920556126/1384920589594?ref=foodsafetynews.com) was sold in 400-gram containers with a UPC code of 0 57197 37238 0 and a Best-Before date of “2015 AL 22.” The recall was triggered by Canadian Food Inspection Agency test results. CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product. Recalled product should be thrown out or returned to the store where it was purchased. Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.
