# E. coli Found in More Canadian Beef

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced two more recalls of beef products – one expanded and one new – for potential E. coli contamination this weekend. The first, issued Friday, was an expansion of two earlier recalls of beef burgers manufactured by Loblaw Companies Ltd. The company recalled certain lots of its Butcher’s Choice brand Garlic Peppercorn Beef Burgers and Hickory Barbecue Beef Burgers last week after finding E. coli O157:H7 in product samples. This [latest announcement](http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/corpaffr/recarapp/2012/20121214e.shtml?ref=foodsafetynews.com) expands that recall to include all product codes of these burgers currently on the marketplace. This includes:

– Butcher’s Choice Hickory Barbecue Beef Burgers sold in 1.13 kg packages and marked with UPC 0 60383 89364 4 – Butcher’s Choice Garlic Peppercorn Beef Burgers sold in 1.13 kg packages and marked with UPC 0 60383 89363 7

The second recall – announced for the first time Saturday by CFIA – was of Cardinal brand Prime Rib Beef Burgers. The affected product bears the code BEST BEFORE 2013 JL 31 EST 752\. These burgers are also sold in 1.13 kg packages. They are marked with UPC 0 63351 01561 1\. “This recall is the result of an ongoing food safety investigation being conducted at Cardinal Meat Specialists Ltd.,” says CFIA in its [recall notice](http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/corpaffr/recarapp/2012/20121215e.shtml?ref=foodsafetynews.com). “This investigation was initiated as a result of recent product testing associated with an outbreak investigation. There may be recalls of additional products as the investigation at this facility continues.” All products subject to the above two recalls were distributed nationally.
