# Tanimura & Antle Recalls Romaine Lettuce in US and Canada

Californian produce grower Tanimura & Antle has [voluntarily recalled a single lot of romaine lettuce](http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm316256.htm?source=govdelivery) shipped to 19 states, Canada and Puerto Rico due to possible E. coli O157:H7 contamination. The company’s announcement comes two days after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency [announced it was recalling the product](https://www.foodsafetynews.com/canada-recalls-romaine-lettuce-grown-in-ca-for-e-coli-risk/) in Canada after the agency detected E. coli on a random sample. The recalled lot was available in stores beginning Aug. 2\. It was packed in plastic bags featuring the UPC # 0-27918-20314-9, with a “best by” date of Aug. 19\. A total of 1,969 cases were shipped to the following U.S. states: AL, AR, AZ, CA, GA, KS, KY, MD, NC, NM, NV, NY, NJ, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, WA and Puerto Rico. The affected product was shipped in cases packed in either 12 or 18 heads per case. Retailers and Distributors can identify the affected products through a traceability code label affixed to exterior of the case: 5417802151\. No illnesses have been reported in connection to this recall. Consumers with questions or who would like replacement coupons may call at 877-827-7388, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. PDT, Monday through Friday.
