New Yorkers have been warned to avoid “Queso Fresco, Fresh Cheese” products made by Mexicali Cheese Corp. in Woodhaven, New York due to [a possible Listeria contamination](http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm311834.htm?ref=foodsafetynews.com). The product is packaged in a “rigid” 14 oz. plastic tub that displays a plant number of 36-0128 and a code of 071512\. The product was packaged in containers bearing the following names: ‘Mexicali Queso Fresco Medicano, Mexican Style Fresh Cheese,’ ‘Acatlan Queso Fresco, Fresh Cheese’ ‘Mi Quesito Mexicano, Mexican Cheese’ ‘Quesillo Ecuatoriano, Ecuadorian Style Cheese’ A routine sample of the cheese was taken by the Division of Milk Control and Dairy Services on June 20\. The department’s food laboratory detected a preliminary positive test result for Listeria on June 25, after which the company initiated a voluntary recall. The department confirmed those test results on Friday, June 29\. No illnesses have been reported.
