Wegmans Food Markets, Greencore USA, Allison’s Gourmet Kitchens, GH Foods SW, GH Foods CA, F&S Produce Co., Delhaize America, Kroger’s, Bost Distributing Co., Grand Strand Sandwich Co. and Spartan Stores have been caught up in the widespread recall of hard-cooked eggs that may be contaminated with Listeria.

The expanded call back is the result of the recent recall by Minnesota-based Michael Foods of more than one million hard-cooked eggs.  Some of the cooked eggs, packaged in brine at Michael Foods Wakefield, NE facility, tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

There have been no confirmed reports of illness associated with the eggs.

Wegmans is recalling certain hard-cooked eggs, as well as prepared foods that contain hard-cooked eggs. Greencore is recalling chefs salad and egg salad sandwiches. Allison’s Gourmet Kitchens is recalling certain prepared potato, macaroni, pea and egg salads.

GH Foods SW is recalling Cobb salads. GH Foods CA is recalling egg salad sandwiches, F&S Produce Company is recalling Cobb and spinach salads, Delhaize America is recalling potato salad and Kroger’s is recalling prepared salads and sandwiches.

Bost Distributing Co. (doing business as Harold Food Co.) is withdrawing chicken salad. Grand Strand Sandwich Co. is recalling chicken salad sandwiches. Spartan Stores is recalling egg spread, sandwiches and salads.

The  Wegmans recall only affects egg products sold between Jan. 23 and Feb. 1, 2012  at the chain’s Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, Canandaigua, Newark, Geneva, Corning, Elmira, Geneseo and Hornell stores.

The following products sold in Wegmans prepared foods and deli departments are included in the recall:

– Hard-cooked eggs (sold by the pound in prepared foods or as a choice on the Fresh Foods Bar)    

– Eggs (special-order deli tray or 6-pack, 12 pack)

– Cobb Salad (10 oz, 43 oz, and 6.5 lb)

– Garden Salad (10 oz, 20 oz, 2 lb, and 5 lb)

– Baby Spinach Salad (9 oz, 1.8 lb, and 3.9 lb)

– Chef Salad (9 oz. and 18 oz.)

– Egg Salad (sold by the pound in prepared foods)

– Egg Salad Sub (Sub Shop)

– Kosher Macaroni Salad (sold by the pound in kosher deli)

– Kosher Pickled Eggs (sold by the pound in kosher deli)

Greencore USA of Cincinnati is recalling approximately 23 pounds of chef salad products and about 55 pound of egg salad sandwiches

The Greencore salad recall is of 5.6 oz. plastic containers of Thornton’s Quick Café Chef Salad with an “enjoy-by” dates through 2/4/2012 that bear the establishment number P-38518 inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were distributed to retail establishments in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee.

The recalled Greencore sandwiches were produced starting  Jan. 18, 2012 and distributed to retail stores in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee.

The sandwich recall is for:

– 7.66 oz Take Away Café Egg salad sandwiches with sell-by dates of 1/25/12 though 2/7/12. Barcode UPC : 745466128195

– 5.68 oz Quick Café Egg salad Wedge with enjoy-by dates of 1/22/12 through 2/4/12. Barcode UPC: 073508830042

Allison’s Gourmet Kitchens of Moore, OK is recalling certain prepared potato, macaroni, pea and egg salads that contain the recalled cooked eggs. The salads were distributed in Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Kansas, Illinois, Louisiana, Nebraska, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Florida, Tennessee and Missouri to retail stores and food service. GH Foods SW, of Houston, TX is recalling approximately 515 pounds of Cobb salads. 

The recall is for 7.5-oz. plastic containers of Fresh Garden Highway Cobb Salad with sell-by dates through 2/6/2012 that bear the establishment number P-44056 inside the USDA mark of inspection The salads were distributed to retail establishments in Texas.

GH Foods CA of Sacramento is recalling 8.5-oz. DeLish brand Egg Salad on HoneyWheat Sandwiched with UPC 0 49022-51925 1 and enjoy-by dates of 1/17/12 through 2/5/12 and 8.5-oz. DeLish brand Tuna Salad on Multigrain Bread Sandwich with UPC 0 49022 51928 2 and enjoy-by dates of 1/22/12 through 2/5/12).

F&S Produce Co. of Deerfield, NJ is recalling approximately 389 pounds of Cobb and spinach salads. The recall is of 10-oz. plastic containers of Fresh Garden Highway Spinach Salad with Bacon and 10.75-oz plastic containers of Fresh Garden Highway Cobb Salad.

The salads have sell-by dates through 2/8/2012, and bear the establishment number Est. 39897 as well as the USDA mark of inspection. They were distributed to a warehouse in Pennsylvania for further distribution to retail locations.

Delhaize America is recalling all Food Lion brand and Hannaford brand potato salads sold at Bloom, Bottom Dollar Food, Food Lion, Reid’s and Sweetbay grocery stores  with use-by dates of March 12, 13, 14 or 15, as well as Allison’s Gourmet Kitchens Potato Salad (bulk sales from full service deli cases at Bloom, Food Lion, Reid’s and Sweetbay stores).

The Kroger Company is recalling 7.5-oz. Fresh Garden Highway Cobb Salad from Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana;  6-oz. Deli Egg Salad Sandwich with White Bread from Dillons, Baker’s, Gerbes and Food4Less Fremont stores; and various Allison’s Gourmet prepared salads from Dillons, Baker’s Gerbes and Food4Less Fremont stores.

Bost Distributing Company (doing business as Harold Food Company) of Bear Creek, NC is recalling 30-lb. boxes of Harold Food Co. Grand Strand Deluxe Chicken Salad with the sell-by date 2/15/2012 and the Est No. P-20479. The products were sent to a distributor in South Carolina for further distribution to retail establishments in North Carolina and South Carolina, and could have been repackaged as sandwiches under different brand names, and with different identifying information.

Grand Strand Sandwich Company of Longs, SC is recalling sandwiches because of the Bost recall.  Because Bost was unsure if eggs from Michael Foods were used in its chicken salad product, Grand Strand decided to be safe, and withdraw some of its sandwiches.

According to Michael Foods, its recall, which touched off all the others, was initiated after lab testing revealed that some of the eggs
within three lot dates may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. A recall of those three lot dates was announced on January 26

The recall was expanded on February 1 to include additional lot dates, which resulted in more recalls.
